Last week in pakisan my PUBG stopped connecting properly. I was sitting at home, opened PUBG Mobile, and the game kept taking too long to connect. My Telenor 4G was working for YouTube and WhatsApp, but PUBG was not behaving normally.
I restarted my Tecno Spark 20. I turned mobile data off and on. I even tried the game again and again. I tried 5 times, but the problem was still there.
This made me check VPN options for PUBG. I also wanted to know if the problem was only on my Telenor connection or if other Pakistani networks could have the same issue.
There is a lot of talk in Pakistan about VPN blocking and filtering. But the situation is not as simple as saying that PTA has blocked every VPN. PTA has worked on VPN licensing and registration rules, while reports have also shown that VPN access can vary between networks and locations. In 2024, PTA decided not to proceed with a blanket VPN ban after legal concerns, and in 2025 it started licensing VPN providers for lawful use.

So, if PUBG is not connecting on your Pakistani internet, a VPN may help in some cases. It may also make your ping worse. That is why testing different servers is important.

My PUBG VPN Test Setup
For a simple PUBG test, I would use the same phone and network instead of changing many things at once.
My setup was:
- Phone: Tecno Spark 20
- Android: Android 15
- Mobile network: Telenor 4G
- Location: Pakistan
- Game: PUBG Mobile
- Test: Connect VPN first, then open PUBG
- Main thing checked: Connection and ping
One thing I learned is that a VPN does not automatically mean lower ping. A VPN can sometimes improve a bad route, but it can also add another server between your phone and the game server.
Also, VPN performance can change by city, network, time, and server load. A result from Gilgit should not be treated as the same result for someone using Jazz in Lahore or PTCL in Islamabad.
PUBG VPN Comparison
| VPN Name | Ping | Works or Not |
|---|---|---|
| Proton VPN Free | Around 110–150 ms | Works for testing |
| Windscribe Free | Around 100–150 ms | Works for testing |
| PrivadoVPN Free | Around 120–170 ms | Works with limitations |
Ping can change from one connection and server to another. These are practical ranges rather than guaranteed results. I would not treat them as permanent numbers for every Pakistani user.
A separate 2026 gaming test reported Proton VPN working with PUBG on an Asian route and Windscribe working with Hong Kong routing, while also warning that free VPNs can have higher latency and connection problems.
1. Proton VPN Free for PUBG
Proton VPN is the first free option I would try when PUBG is having connection trouble.
The Android app is available for free, and Proton says its free plan has no data or speed limits. Its Android app also supports features such as WireGuard and Stealth.
For PUBG, I would first use the fastest free server available. I would not randomly choose a very far country because distance can increase ping.
Proton’s current free service has free servers in several countries, including Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, and others.
For a player in Pakistan, an Asian route can make more sense for PUBG than connecting to a far-away US server.
How I would use Proton VPN
- Install Proton VPN on Android.
- Open the app.
- Log in or create a free account.
- Connect to a suitable free server.
- Wait until the VPN shows connected.
- Open PUBG Mobile.
- Check the ping in the game.
If your ping becomes very high, disconnect and test your normal connection again. A VPN is only useful if the actual game connection becomes better for you.
2. Windscribe Free
Windscribe is another option worth testing for PUBG.
Windscribe has an Android app and a free plan. The current free plan gives up to 10 GB per month after email confirmation, while users without confirmation can have a lower monthly limit.
Windscribe also has a dedicated PUBG page where it explains how users can connect the VPN before launching the game. The company warns that free VPN connections can have crowded servers, higher latency, random disconnects, and data limits.
That warning is useful for Pakistani players.
If Windscribe connects but PUBG becomes laggy, try another server. Do not keep playing on a server that gives you very high ping.
For normal gaming, 10 GB can last for some time because PUBG itself does not use data like watching HD video all day. Still, updates and other phone activity can use your VPN data.
3. PrivadoVPN Free
PrivadoVPN is another free VPN that Pakistani Android users can test.
Its free plan provides 10 GB of monthly data and includes features designed for basic VPN use.
I would keep PrivadoVPN as another option rather than expecting it to work perfectly on every Pakistani network.
This is especially useful if Proton VPN or Windscribe is not connecting on your Telenor, Jazz, or PTCL connection. Sometimes one VPN works while another has connection problems because internet routes are not always the same.
For PUBG, connect the VPN first and then start the game. If you notice higher ping, try another available server or compare the result with your normal connection.
What About PTCL, Telenor and Jazz?
The network you use can make a big difference.
My Telenor 4G connection in Gilgit may take a different route from a Jazz connection in Karachi. PTCL users can also see different results because fixed broadband and mobile networks do not always handle traffic in the same way.
This is why I would not say that one VPN works for every Pakistani player.
If PUBG works normally without a VPN, I would first use the normal connection. A VPN is something I would test when there is a connection problem, unusual routing, or another genuine reason to use one.
Also remember that a VPN cannot increase the physical speed of your Telenor or Jazz connection. It only changes how your traffic travels through the internet.
How to Check PUBG Ping After Connecting
After connecting a VPN, do not look only at whether PUBG opens.
Check the actual ping inside the game.
If your normal connection gives you 60 ms and the VPN gives you 150 ms, the VPN is not helping your gameplay.
If your normal connection has connection problems but the VPN gives you a stable 90–110 ms, it may be useful for your particular route.
I would also play a short match before making a final decision. The lobby may look fine while the connection becomes unstable during an actual game.
Why Free VPNs Can Be Slow
Free VPN servers are used by many people. When too many users connect to one server, speed can drop.
Gaming also needs a stable connection. A VPN that is fine for browsing may not feel good in PUBG.
Windscribe itself says free VPNs can have crowded servers and higher latency.
So, do not believe claims about a VPN giving guaranteed 0 ping, no lag, or 100% working PUBG. Those claims are not realistic.
Is Using a VPN Safe in Pakistan?
The legal and regulatory situation around VPNs in Pakistan has changed over time. PTA has discussed VPN registration and licensing, and in 2025 it announced licensing for VPN service providers for lawful use.
That does not mean every free VPN is safe.
I would avoid unknown VPN APK files from random websites. A VPN gets a lot of access to your internet traffic, so downloading a strange APK can create a bigger problem.
For Android, I would use the official app source whenever possible.
Also, using a VPN does not remove PUBG’s own rules. Windscribe itself advises players to follow PUBG’s terms of service.
My Simple PUBG VPN Advice
If PUBG is not connecting on your Pakistani network, test one VPN at a time.
Start with Proton VPN Free. If the route is slow, try Windscribe. If you still have a problem, PrivadoVPN is another option to check.
Do not judge a VPN only by whether PUBG opens. Check ping, packet loss, and stability during a real match.
And if PUBG works fine on your normal Telenor, Jazz, or PTCL connection, there may be no reason to keep a VPN running.
FAQs
1. Can I use a free VPN for PUBG in Pakistan?
Yes, you can test free VPN services such as Proton VPN, Windscribe, and PrivadoVPN. But performance can change by network, server, and location. A free VPN may also increase your ping.
2. Which free VPN should I try first for PUBG?
Proton VPN Free is a practical first option because its Android free plan currently offers unlimited data and no speed limit according to Proton. Windscribe is another option, especially if you want more server choices but can stay within its free data limit.
3. Will a VPN always reduce PUBG ping?
No. A VPN can sometimes improve a poor internet route, but it can also increase ping because your traffic travels through an extra server. Always compare your normal connection with the VPN before using it for a full PUBG session.
